喷油器建立燃料压力，将燃料喷入发动机燃烧室。用于这种分配系统的柴油泵有下列四种功用：自油箱吸油；定量供给每缸相等的油量；在规定时刻向各缸喷油器分配和供给定量的燃料；带有控制怠速和发动机速度的调速器。这种喷油泵是PE系列型，安装在很多发动机上。

五缸柴油机是其中一例。PE系列泵每一缸有一个由套筒和柱塞组成的油泵偶件，柱塞与套筒成对研磨，间隙只有千分之二到千分之三毫米。因此，对柴油要保持高度清洁。柱塞和套筒只能成对更换。在泵的驱动装置中安装有喷油定时装置，能随发动机转速变化改变喷油定时。控制齿条和齿轮啮合，泵柱塞能用控制齿条转动，泵的出油量可从零变化到。

压油，柱塞被凸轮顶起；行程，柱塞被柱塞弹簧压下。油泵柱塞行程不能改变。吸油室处于充满燃油状态，并由输油泵保持一定压力。若泵柱塞在下死点，控制孔被打开，压力室充满燃油。柱塞向上运动，柱塞关闭控制孔，燃油通过压力阀推出，进入高压油管。

一旦上控制边到达控制孔，因为压力室与吸油室之间被柱塞上的轴向孔连通，供油结束。因为柱塞转动量决定了柱塞打开控制孔的早或晚，转动柱塞可改变出油量。由于默谢台斯本茨柴油机是预燃室式，在预燃室内装有预热塞，借电流对燃烧室加热燃料燃烧，有利于冷天起动。

这种喷油泵是单缸，对置柱塞，进口计量的分配式喷油泵，该泵适于中高速柴油机。主要组成是：驱动轴，分配转子，输油泵，泵柱塞，内凸轮环，液流阀，端板和调速器。洛沙麦斯特喷油泵吸入经过滤清的燃油，具有自润滑的特点，没有被抛光的承载弹簧，没有球轴承，没有齿轮和其它许多附件。

所有旋转件在同一轴线上转动，有驱动轴，分配转子（包括柱塞和调速器），以及输油泵。燃油由刮片式输油泵，从供油泵经进油口滤清器吸入、过剩的燃油道经调节阀旁通孔返回进油口。旁通流量随转速增加而减少，调节阀也随转速增加而增大输油压力。燃油被输油泵压入轴向通道，到尽头时进入转子体上的环形槽内。
